Would you like to have your photos taken on the highest viewing point in Alfama? Beautiful top city views would create a perfect background, I can assure you. So, what do you have to do to plan your photo shoot on top of National Pantheon? Just wind your way around the streets and alleyways of the Alfama district until you see the striking white dome of the Pantheon. You won’t miss it, as it stands out with all its grandiosity.
The National Pantheon – or the church of Santa Engrácia – is a beautifully decorated Baroque building, housing the tombs of Portugal’s major historic celebrities. Its creation dates back to the second half of the 16th century. After that, the architect João Antunes leaded the massive reconstruction of the building at the end of the 17th century. However, the Portuguese never used it as a place of worship.
Nowadays, it’s even possible to organise different events either in the church itself (for example concerts, theatre shows, film shootings) or on the terrace with a panoramic view of Lisbon. The companies or individuals can book it for cocktails, cultural events, and film/photo shoots.

‘All this comes back to me,
then goes again,
and comes back again,
then goes again,
and I don’t care,
it still belongs to me”
